#StopHateForProfit Week of Action Social Media Toolkit
Thank you for being a part of the Stop Hate For Profit movement. Building on the early success of #StopHateForProfit – in which over 1,200 companies and non-profits demanded change from Facebook, including some of the most well-known brands in the world, such as Unilever, Verizon, Adidas, Ford, Williams Sonoma, Patagonia and many more – a growing group of people will join the #StopHateForProfit campaign for a week of action beginning Monday, September 14th. Stop Hate For Profit was founded by some of the most prominent civil rights groups and nonprofit organizations in the country including ADL, Color of Change, Common Sense, Free Press, LULAC, Mozilla, NAACP, National Hispanic Media Coalition, and Sleeping Giants.
To participate we are asking you to join us as we post a specific message each day (provided below) about the harms that Facebook has inflicted on our society and the importance of voting. We will kick off the campaign with an announcement post on Monday, September 14th, and ask people to join a 24-hour Instagram “Freeze” on Wednesday, September 16th, in which everyone will put up one message focusing on the damage Facebook does and refrain from otherwise posting on Instagram for that day. On Thursday, September 17th, everyone will share a post focused on how Facebook’s failures lead to real-life violence and sow division, calling on the company to improve its policies. The week of action will culminate on Friday, September 18th, when you post about how Facebook spreads misinformation about the election and urge people to vote and demand Facebook stop undermining our democracy.
Join to change the conversation about Facebook’s danger to society by coming together and posting each day to explicitly call out Facebook to #StopHateForProfit.
Monday 9/14: Kickoff Announcement
Sample Copy: Facebook claims they address #hate, yet they continue to look the other way as racist, violent groups and posts sow division and split America apart – only taking steps after people are killed. And while they share empty talk about voting, they continue allowing blatant lies and misinformation on election to spread – undermining our democracy.
